Xact Medical is an institutional investor-backed medical device startup located in Springboro, Ohio.  With technology exclusively licensed from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Ben Gurion University, Xact is developing a pioneering product in the soon-to-explode field of point of care robotics – the Fast Intelligent Needle Delivery System, or FIND.

FIND is a hand-held medical robot that integrates ultrasound imaging with autonomous needle advancement to turn every clinician into an expert at needle placement, which will improve patient outcomes and save hospitals time and money.  The initial target market is vascular access, to be followed by regional anesthesiology and biopsy.

With extensive market research completed to confirm product-market fit and a proof of concept prototype completed, Xact is currently seeking to fill an exciting opportunity to lead overall software development and integration efforts for the company. Manager/Director, Software Development

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the translation of customer inputs to software requirements to technical specifications
  • Lead software integration strategy and execution for the FIND –Terason Ultrasound product integration
  • Manage internal engineering personnel and engineering contractors/consultants to ensure on-time, within-budget outcomes that meet design objectives and comply with Quality System Regulations
  • Direct/conduct all software development/testing/validation and collaborate for firmware development/testing/validation
  • Work closely with the Director R&D to seamlessly integrate hardware/firmware and software requirements & performance
  • Evaluate and assist in the selection of partners/consultants
  • Build and maintain intellectual property (trade secret or patent) portfolio
  • Provide software perspective input into the design and conduct of all testing, including animal and clinical trial protocols
  • Participate in Management Reviews
  • Other duties as specifically assigned by the CEO

Education & Tenure

  • Engineering degree, advanced degree preferred, 10+ years’ relevant work experience

Knowledge & Experience 

Required

  • Experience with robotic or other complex electromechanical device software programming and algorithm development, including user interface
  • Experience and expertise (demonstrated ability to code) in C++
  • Experience in leading/developing/managing a software development team including outsource partners
  • Experience with software validation
  • Experience with preparing and managing to a budget & schedule

Preferred

  • Experience with Class II medical device software programming and algorithm development, including user interface
  • Working knowledge of Design Control requirements in the medical device development process
  • Experience with industrial design and design for human factors
  • Working knowledge of relevant 3rd party test standards (e.g. ISO 60601)
  • Experience in designing and assisting in the completion of animal studies and human clinical trials
