Coffee lovers and industry professionals flooded in through the doors of Nucleus CoShare on Saturday, May 7, to participate in The Wright Cup’s Dayton Coffee Symposium. The event kicked off with a talk about the history and evolution of coffee from Telemetry Coffee Roasters’ Taylor Minor in which he said, “If you want to find out what the coffee of the future is, look to the cities where people are sharing life.”

This set the tone for the event’s main theme of community and social responsibility which has become a mantra of third-wave coffee professionals and supporters.

Winans Coffee & Chocolates, Ambassadors Coffee Roasters, Twisted River & Reza’s Roast all spoke on the various aspects of operating in the industry: from sourcing the beans to supporting and empowering coffee farmers to developing roasts to thinking outside the box with product development (Who would have ever thought to try coffee jelly?).

The event concluded with an inspiring life account from author Tim Stiffler-Dean who shared how a single cup of coffee changed his life’s trajectory, which led him to found Brew the Way, an organization purposed to create community and inspire action in coffee houses across the nation.
