Entrepreneurs&#8217; Center&#8217;s Scott Koorndyk and Kim Frazier shared on overview of local capital opportunities at this year&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/launchdayton.com\/events\/dayton-startup-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Launch Dayton Startup Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They highlighted:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbir.gov\/\">Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)<\/a><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The federal government\u2019s way of investing in research that small businesses are doing and researching with technology.<\/li>\n<li>Will invest in the company without debt, equity, or an expectation to pay them back.<\/li>\n<li>Requirements: Technology-based company.<\/li>\n<li>Typically invest $50,000 &#8211; $150,000.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/development.ohio.gov\/business\/third-frontier-and-technology\/technology-validation-start-up-fund\">Technology Validation &amp; Start Up Fund (TVSF)<\/a><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Run by the state of Ohio with a goal to get technologies out of universities and into the market.<\/li>\n<li>Requirements: License-able technology idea that someone else created and proof that the technology is valuable and a good foundation for your business. (Must pursue before you have licensed the technology)<\/li>\n<li>Typically invest $100,000 &#8211; $150,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/ecinnovates.com\/get-started\/launch-a-high-tech-startup\/\">Entrepreneurial Services Provider (ESP)<\/a><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>EC manages this program to help entrepreneurs move down the commercialization pathway by offsetting expensive costs, marketing plans, prototyping and more.<\/li>\n<li>Will pay for services without debt, equity, or an expectation to pay them back.<\/li>\n<li>Requirements: Company must have a technology at its core.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/visiontech-partners.com\/\">Vision Tech Angels, Dayton Chapter<\/a><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Angel investing group based in Indianapolis. The Dayton chapter is managed by the EC.<\/li>\n<li>Requirements: Scalable technology-based company.<\/li>\n<li>Typically invest $100,000 &#8211; $500,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/ogt.fund\/\">Ohio Gateway Tech Fund (OGTF)<\/a><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Pre-seed fund starting formal venture process that is supported by the state; it can take more risks than a traditional venture capital organization.<\/li>\n<li>Requirements: Equity and technology-based company.<\/li>\n<li>Typically invest $250,000 &#8211; $400,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/ecinnovates.com\/entrepreneurs-center-launches-regional-network-of-angel-investors\/\">Entrepreneur Center (EC) Angels<\/a><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Funded by local, accredited investors who are committed to this region.<\/li>\n<li>Individual investments, not collective; entrepreneurs are matchmaking with investors.<\/li>\n<li>Requirements: Any kind of business and have something valuable investors want to invest in, so that their investment will be returned.<\/li>\n<li>Typically invest $5,000 &#8211; $100,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/ecinnovates.com\/\">Rotunda Fund<\/a><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>More like a loan than an investment; take a loan and pay it back as a percentage of monthly sales.<\/li>\n<li>Best for those who cannot get a bank loan.<\/li>\n<li>Not an equity investment.<\/li>\n<li>Requirements: Any kind of business, must have a revenue between $100,000 &#8211; $300,000 annually (can be discussed if under), plan to double revenue in two years, open to coaching from the EC staff and investors, and willing to share monthly bank statements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Want to get involved?
